School year ISIT 2019
Country France

Can you describe yourself in brief ?

I am Thomas Jardin, I graduated from the Law and Languages programme (now known as Law and Multilingual Studies) in 2019. I have been a practicing lawyer for over three years, specializing primarily in insurance regulation. After several years in the Insurance department at Gide, I joined the financial regulations team at the Paris offices of the leading law firm Clifford Chance in 2025. My practice focuses on advising (re) insurance undertakings and intermediaries on a wide range of insurance regulatory matters, including in transactional contexts (M&A, distribution, financing), product structuring, litigation, and restructuring.

Can you tell us about your academic career leading up to your graduation from ISIT?

I began my legal studies at Paris- Panthéon-Assas University and in my second year joined the Lawyer Linguist program at ISIT, with French, English and Italian as my working languages. I followed this double course until I obtained my Master 1 in business law and my Lawyer Linguist diploma in 2019.

In a few sentences, can you sum up the impact that the ISIT Master’s degree has had on your professional and personal life?

In addition to the technical skills I acquired during my studies, particularly in translation and writing, what I remember most about my time at ISIT are the unforgettable opportunities offered by the dual degree program in Law and Languages.

On the one hand, this program allowed me to complete an internship at the Lemme Avvocati Associati law firm in Rome, where I wrote an article on cultural property law entitled “Attribution of a work of art, guarantee and recourse in the Italian legal system.”

On the other hand, ISIT allowed us to launch a project that was close to our hearts: the ISIT Legal Clinic, which I had the opportunity to co-found with my classmates and chair in its early days. In this context, my colleague and friend Julie Favreau and I had the pleasure of organizing internships for students during the COVID pandemic.

On a more personal level, my time at ISIT allowed me to meet and work alongside brilliant and inspiring lecturers and students for nearly three years, and to form lifelong friendships with some of them.

Can you describe your professional career since graduating?

After obtaining a Master 1 in Business Law and a Master’s degree in Law and Languages, I chose to specialize in insurance law by enrolling in the Institut des Assurances de Paris (Paris Dauphine-PSL University). I then continued my studies at the Bar Professional Training School before being sworn in and practicing as a lawyer.

What have been your most notable professional achievements since graduating from ISIT?

After graduating from ISIT, I had the opportunity to participate in the University of Miami’s LawWithoutWalls program, which was an enriching experience that allowed me to collaborate with students from around the world on issues combining law, business and technology.

Obtaining my certificate of aptitude for the legal profession (CAPA) and being sworn in were particularly significant milestones and a source of great pride.

Today, practicing law on a daily basis remains, without question, my greatest achievement since graduating from ISIT.

What advice would you give to master’s students (for their studies and their start in the profession)?

First of all, cultivate your curiosity: it is essential both in your studies and throughout your professional career. For my part, it was by taking an interest in insurance law as part of an optional course at university that I discovered this demanding but exciting world that has shaped my career.

Also, take advantage of your studies to build lasting relationships. Your classmates will likely become future colleagues or clients, and some may even become friends.

Finally, don’t hesitate to ask lecturers or alumni for advice or feedback as their experience can provide valuable insights.
