Partnership agreement between the French court of appeal (Cour de cassation) and ISIT
On 25 June 2024, Christophe Soulard, first president of the French Cour de cassation and Beate Baldwin, Dean of ISIT, signed a partnership agreement between the Cour de cassation and ISIT, which is a member of the Paris Panthéon-Assas establishment.
ISIT was founded in 1957 in the context of European integration and offers a variety of multilingual training, which since 1978 includes the double degree program Lawyer/Linguist /Law & intercultural studies.
This double degree program is organized over five years in partnership with Université Paris Panthéon-Assas and with Université Paris Saclay, Faculté Jean Monnet. Students can study law in three languages: French, English and a third language selected from Arabic, Chinese, Italian, German, Portuguese, Russian or Spanish. Students also follow courses in comparative law, international law, legal translation and writing, professional public speaking and intercultural communication.
This new partnership will enable students following this double degree program to undertake professional projects for the Cour de cassation during their study time, thereby contributing to the international influence of French law. In the framework of the ISIT Legal Clinic, students will undertake translations, glossaries and research. They can also obtain internship in the international relations department at the at the Cour de cassation.
This initiative reflects the wish of the Cour de cassation to reinforce its links with higher education and to disseminate to other countries, in their languages, its jurisprudence and working methods. At ISIT we are proud that our students’ course will be enriched by forming close ties with the prestigious highest jurisdiction in France.
